How payment works and what to do if it fails

Card payment on the page, what happens if it is declined, and how to finish a payment you started.

Payment is taken by card at the end of the form, on the page itself, through our payment provider. You do not leave the site and we never see or store your card number.

What happens when the payment succeeds

Your file is created immediately and you receive a file number beginning with VP. You are then shown two optional add-ons, and after that your confirmation and your tracking area.

Nothing is charged before that point. Everything you enter earlier in the form is saved, but no file exists in our queue until the payment goes through.

If your card is declined

Nothing is charged and nothing is lost. Your answers are saved, so you can try again without filling in the form a second time.

The usual causes are ordinary ones:

  • An online payment limit or a foreign payment block on your card

  • A card that does not support payments in US dollars

  • A 3D Secure confirmation that was not completed in time

  • An expired card, or a typing mistake in the number or the security code

Trying a different card usually solves it. If several attempts fail, contact us before trying again, so we can check whether anything reached us.

If you are not sure whether you paid

Do not pay twice. If you have a file number beginning with VP, your payment went through. If you do not, check your bank app for a pending charge and contact us with your email address, and we will look.

Finishing a payment you started

If you left the form before paying, your answers are kept and you can come back and finish. If you gave us your email address, we send you a link back to your application.

Unfinished applications are not kept indefinitely. If you come back after a long gap and your information has gone, you will need to start again.

Currency

Prices are charged in US dollars. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts at its own rate and may add its own fee, which is why the amount on your statement can differ slightly from the amount shown at checkout.
